Week 22 (23)

in Pregnancy

One book says I’m in my 23rd week. I’m 22 weeks and two days. So call it what you wish.

Last week I bought my first gift for the baby (if you don’t count the prenatal vitamins and antacid pills).

Baby bunny slippers

I’ve been hesitant to buy a bunch of stuff, knowing that I’ll get some things from family and friends, who are probably much more educated on what to get a baby, but I couldn’t resist the slippers. They probably aren’t very practical, but they’re slippers! And they’re bunnies!

I’ve come across some other things that I’m keeping in a list, things I might want to pick up if the mood strikes (or the budget allows).
babystuff
1. Threadless Kids Onesie (hard to pick a favorite here); 2. Sophie the Giraffe; 3. Swix Monkey Hat; 4. Smartwool Booties; 5. Detroit Tigers/Red Wings Onesie (because one must represent, especially up here in No Man’s Land); 6. Robeez shoes (I have loved these shoes since I picked up a pair for a girlfriend’s baby years ago).

It might not seem like a big deal for me to be listing things for the kid, but this is a huge deal for me. This pregnancy has been real, don’t get me wrong, but it’s really starting to sink in now. And even though it seems like I will never NOT be pregnant, when I count up the remaining weeks, 17 is not that many, people. And I know that time is going to fly by faster than I can possibly imagine.

I figure it’s probably time to start getting prepared and cleaning out the office, because guess where everything’s going?

Watching the Inauguration yesterday was a thrill, and after trying to hold back the tears I decided to screw it and just let the tears come. I’m shocked and extremely disappointed by the hate I’ve heard muttered against this new administration before it even has a chance to take any action, especially by one of my (ultra-conservative Christian) friends, how she can somehow manage to completely overlook the historic significance of this presidency. I want to believe that it’s not a question of Obama’s race, but she has yet to provide me adequate backing of their opinion to make me believe it’s anything BUT race. And while our country has come so far in race relations, it reminds me that we still have so far to go. And I just hope that their kids can see past the hate on their own, because they’re sure not learning it from their parents.

I am so thrilled that my daughter will have President Obama as the first president of her lifetime, and I can’t wait to tell her the story when she’s old enough to understand.

Don’t forget to pick up Radiohead and Metallica’s greatest hits, converted to lullabyes.
