Graham Heaven

I’ve been doing a slow but steady purge of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) from our house. A large part of that reduction was eliminating soda from my diet. I’m far from perfect on this, and even though some items still live in my pantry and creep into my daily diet (I might have a little thing or Wheat Thin Fiber Select crackers and Baked Lays), I feel really great about making that adjustment. More importantly, I don’t want Sophie to grow up on a steady diet of HFCS.

Twenties

This was a challenging week food and exercise-wise, so I’m surprised and happy to see that my body’s still shedding unnecessary weight. It was my highest mileage week to date (21 miles over four days) and also the highest calorie-wise. I blame the graham crackers.

Apple Crumble Nom.

This is the recipe. I didn’t use puff pastry, and instead made a batch of pie dough from a Martha Stewart recipe, halving the butter. Because half a cup of butter is enough for a pie, right? I’m sure there are more buttery pies out there, but it tasted fine to me.

Blind baking ensured the crust didn’t get soggy on the bottom. I highly recommend this technique.

Suits, Cake, and Me Time

April 3, 2008 was the last day I wore this suit, and not comfortably. It fits. Nicely. I never thought I’d get back into this suit. Okay, maybe not never, but I feared it might be eaten by moths by the time it happened. the same moths, by the way, who have been munching on a few of my J.Crew cashmere sweaters. Let’s just say I’m not feeling very charitable toward bugs at the moment.
